Six bottles [750mL] Sine Qua Non Distenta III 2021 California, two each: Syrah, Grenache and White Wine

The reputation for exceptional quality and unique flavors further fuels the demand for Sine Qua Non wines. The waitlist for Sine Qua Non wine can be extremely long, often stretching for over a decade due to the high demand for their limited production, meaning it could take more than 10 years to join their mailing list and purchase their wines directly.

The 2021 Sine Qua Non Distenta III Syrah is an exceptional Syrah, having earned a 97 from Jeb Dunnuck, “A great example of the cooler style of the vintage, the 2021 Syrah Distenta III has quintessential Syrah notes of ripe darker berry fruits, ground pepper, violets, and assorted smoky, meaty, subtly bloody-like nuances. With medium to full-bodied richness, flawless overall balance, and ultra-fine tannins it picks up a beautiful floral character with time in the glass and reminds me of a great vintage of Guigal’s Côte Rôtie La Mouline.”

The 2021 California Grenache received a 99 from Jeb Dunnuck. The Grenache offers a full-bodied, pure and elegant profile along with lovely aromatics of ripe dark cherries, blackberries, peppery herbs and florals. It has beautiful depth and richness while achieving a smooth finish and silky tannins.

The 2021 California White Wine received a highly sought-after rating of 100 from Jeb Dunnuck, “An absolute blockbuster of a white as well as a perfect wine, the 2021 Distenta III White offers up a vivid gold hue as well as incredible aromatics of stone fruits, toasted bread, green almond, and fresh croissants. This is no lightweight quaffer, and it brings full-bodied richness and depth while at the same time staying flawlessly balanced, light on its feet, pure, and precise.”

Cade / PlumpJack Wine Dinner for 20 guests featuring 36 bottles [750mL], six each:

  • Cade 2023 Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley
  • PlumpJack 2023 Chardonnay Reserve, Napa Valley
  • PlumpJack 2022 Merlot, Napa Valley
  • Adaptation by Odette 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
  • Cade 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain, Napa Valley
  • PlumpJack 2019 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Oakville, Napa Valley
  • Dinner for up to 20 people at Bistro by the Tracks, the winning bidder’s home, or on the KMA terrace with Steven and Anita Matijcio

So, what do Gavin Newsom and Gordon Getty have in common? They are all from California and they founded the PlumpJack Group. In 1992, Newsom opened PlumpJack Wine and Spirits, a shop in San Francisco. In 1995, Newsom and Getty joined forces to found PlumpJack Wines in Oakville, Napa Valley. By 1997, John Conover had joined as General Manager. The rest is a long progressive history in excellent Napa Valley winemaking. Since the inception, Newsom has been engaged as a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, San Francisco Mayor, California Lieutenant Governor and now Governor. Getty is, of course, the largest shareholder of PlumpJack Group, which also includes restaurants, and an inn in Napa, San Francisco and Lake Tahoe. Conover joined as Managing Partner to keep the focus on the business.

An interesting experiment in corks and screwcaps was instituted by PlumpJack with their Reserve Cabernet in 1997. Half of the bottles in each vintage are topped with a screw top and half with the traditional cork. If you order a case today, you will be shipped six bottles of each. Going forward, they were able to add the Cade and Odette wineries. Across the years, Conover has successfully maintained a laser focus to ensure that the new properties/wineries delivered comparable quality and consistency to match the reputation of the PlumpJack brand. To that end, PlumpJack, Odette and Cade have routinely turned-out wines rated in the low to mid-90s for a couple of decades. If you have ever attended one of the PlumpJack dinners at Bistro by the Tracks that are held each year, you know and understand this.

But now, you can throw your very own PlumpJack wine dinner for yourself and your wine-loving friends. The lot includes a dinner for up to 20 people. It can be held at your own home, at Bistro by the Tracks, or on the KMA terrace with Executive Director Steven Matijcio and Anita Hollmann- Matijcio. So, round up your group and bid on this great party for yourselves!

Nestled on the pristine hillside vineyards of Knights Valley, is the uber-private and beyond stunning estate of Knights Bridge Winery – a highly-regarded, family-owned winery producing renowned wine from the estate vineyard since 2006.

Fifteen years in the making, the winery is only the second to ever be built in Knights Valley. During this time, the proprietors spent designing every detail with legendary Architect Howard Backen of Backen Gillam Architects (Ovid, Futo, and Bond among their other notable winery designs) with inspiration derived from the wild, natural beauty of Knights Valley and the sublime grandeur of Mt. St. Helena. In a sense, the space is indescribable. Elegantly understated architecture, dramatic floor-to-ceiling glass walls with breathtaking views. All aspects were designed with an immersive visitor experience in mind, offering an elevated, private escape in a luxurious setting. So fabulous, the tasting salon was dubbed one of “The Most Exciting Tasting Room Openings of 2021” by Sonoma Magazine. Open only to a very limited number of visitors per day and unseen from the road; the winery is an enchanting place of retreat and respite with natural spaces to discover and a vineyard that is truly a hidden gem.

Additionally, guests will also enjoy complimentary concierge services to assist with securing additional tours, tastings, and dining reservations during their visit to wine country.

In addition, the winning bidder will take home a magnum of 2009 Knights Bridge Cabernet Sauvignon, Pont de Chevalier. This wine is a notable expression of Sonoma County’s terroir. It presents a sweet perfume of espresso, wild plum, and saddle leather, unfolding to reveal dense briery fruit, dark chocolate, and mocha, interwoven with notes of licorice, toasted walnuts, and forest floor. Chewy tannins provide a delightful grip and length, leading to a smoky candied cherry finish. Pulido~Walker Wine dinner prepared for 20 guests by Chef John Bryant of Bistro by the Tracks. Featuring 36 bottles [750mL] of Pulido~Walker Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, six each: Mt. Veeder Estate 2021 Chardonnay, Mt. Veeder Estate 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon, Melanson Vineyard 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon, Melanson Vineyard 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon, Policy Estate Vineyard 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon, Policy Estate Vineyard 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon

Mark Pulido and his wife Donna Walker didn’t start in the wine business. Both are trained pharmacists which explains their meticulous attention to detail. Mark is former CEO of McKesson Corporation and Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation USA. Donna is former North American Sales and Marketing Director for 3M Pharmaceuticals. Their interest in wine prompted their move to Napa Valley. They made some very good wine back in the 2006 timeframe that didn’t quite fit their top-quality standards so they sold it off without bottling it. Today, Pulido-Walker is making single vineyard designate wines under the direction of winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown who has been with them for many years. Brown began at Turley Cellars in 1997. He was named Food and Wine magazine’s Winemaker of the Year in 2010. Finally, Pulido-Walker hired Austin Gallion as National Sales Director. Austin is a classically-trained chef (Johnson & Wales) and was executive sous chef at Michelin Star restaurants in Napa for five years. Prior to arriving at Pulido-Walker, Austin was Director of Hospitality at Vineyard 29. Why are we telling you all of this? Because it provides a background that explains why this world-class crew turns out wines that consistently score 95 – 98 by Decanter and The Wine Advocate over the years.

We won’t go into depth of detail for with the particulars of these wines except to tell you that the scores were very consistent with those mentioned above. How dedicated to quality is Pulido-Walker? They refused to make a 2020 vintage because of the effects from the fires in Napa. It takes commitment to make that decision. Pundit descriptions include the phrases: “stunning, terrifically aromatic and expressive,” and “irresistibly enticing” – to mention only a few. We might add massive, full-bodied and “killer” as adjectives that come to mind. You can only imagine how these beauties will pair with a great steak or short rib.

Your dinner, for up to twenty guests, will be prepared by Bistro by the Tracks for your party! John Bryant, executive chef, will prepare a feast tailored to pair with these fabulous wines. It promises to be a night to be long-remembered. Who knows, you might even be graced by a cameo appearance by the lovely donor and her parents.

We are deeply grateful to the Brewington’s for their long-standing support of the Knoxville Museum of Art and L’Amour du Vin.

Matt Gallaher, the highly-acclaimed and accomplished chef will create a menu of sumptuous preparations for food and wine lovers to indulge, and each course will be paired with the beautiful Lombardi wines.

Chef Gallaher, a Knoxville native, began his culinary career in his family’s restaurant and catering company. He then acquired a Chemical Engineering degree from the University of Tennessee. Matt embraced cooking as his true calling and seized an opportunity to work as Sous Chef under Executive Chef John Fleer at Blackberry Farm. From there, Gallagher traveled across 14 countries and 4 continents cooking for musicians including the Eagles, Neil Young, Keith Urban, and Kings of Leon.

Desiring to reconnect with his Tennessee roots, Matt was called as Personal Chef for Governor Bill Haslam in Nashville. From there, Matt brought his culinary flair and extraordinary vision and creativity to Knoxville where he opened Knox Mason, his ode to traditional Appalachian cuisine, and later Emilia which focuses on handmade Italian cuisine.

Lombardi Wines founders, Tony and Christine Lombardi, have over 30 years of experience in the production of small craft wines. Lombardi Wines was started in 2013 when Tony and Christine began a passion project that honors a rich family history of wine, food, and tradition. Their Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are sourced from a family of growers in Sonoma County, where the Lombardi family has been since 1947. Together, with Winemaker Cabell Coursey, they craft Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from some of the finest vineyards on the Sonoma Coast. “Wine has always been a part of my family’s history dating back to 1914. I want to craft a wine that I love to drink and hope we connect with people that love it, too. La Famiglia!”  Tony Lombardi.

The 2021 Martaella Vineyard Chardonnay, Russian River Valley, has aromatics of an alluring tropical note of citrus and Gravenstein apple followed by bursting aromas of orange blossoms, and stone fruits such as nectarine, and Honeydew Melon. On the palate it shows great texture and mouthfeel with a piercing wash of acidity and hints of candied ginger, and baking spice turning crisp with a final wash of mouthwatering natural acidity. Rated 94 points by Antonio Galloni, Vinous, and 92 points by both James Suckling and Jeb Dunnuck.

The 2022 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir reveals aromatics of dark aromas of blackberry, black cherry, and ripe currants in the nose with a dust of cocoa. It delivers dark black fruits that

slowly melt into all areas of the mouth. There is focused acidity and fine dry tannins that carry the rich blackberry, anise, cedar, black licorice and mocha flavors toward the mid-palate, leading to a lingering juicy finish of black cherry and dried currants. Rated 93 points by Wine Enthusiast and 92 points by James Suckling.

The 2022 Gap’s Crown Vineyard Pinot Noir, Petaluma Gap reveals enticing lilac, lavender, dark-cherry, and blackberry that fill the glass. Vibrant undertones of black truffle and dark chocolate. Crushed berries dominate the front palate. Chocolate covered cherries and a trace of candied orange peel saturate the mid-palate and linger for a smooth and lengthy finish. Rated 94 points by Wine Enthusiast and 92 points by James Suckling.

    Live Lot 22

Aubert Wine Dinner for twenty guests at the winning bidder’s home or Bistro by the Tracks. This evening will feature thirty-six bottles [750mL] of Aubert Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, six each: Russian River Valley 2023 Chardonnay, Lauren 2022 Chardonnay, Park Avenue 2022 Chardonnay, UV Vineyard 2022 Pinot Noir, CIX 2022 Pinot Noir, UV / SL 2022 Pinot Noir

It isn’t a stretch to say that Aubert is one of the finest producers of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir worldwide, much less California. Located in Calistoga, Aubert sources its fruit from mostly estate vineyards, and all of the fruit comes from Sonoma County. For years, the Burlesons have donated a lot featuring Aubert Wines to L’Amour du Vin. The average ratings on the Burleson Aubert wine lots over the years is 96.5 to 97 points (including this one). A few have been even higher.

Aubert Wines was founded by Mark and Theresa Aubert in 2000. Before building his own winery facility, Mark made his wines at Colgin Cellars and the Custom Crush facility. Prior to starting Aubert Wine, Mark worked at some of the best wineries in California. He replaced Helen Turley at the Peter Michael Winery in Sonoma and he later replaced Helen Turley for the second time when he became the winemaker for the cult wine Colgin Cellars in Napa. Aubert has also worked as a consultant for some of the top California wineries including Sloan, Futo and Bryant Family. Given that resume, discussing the wines seems somewhat incidental. The Chardonnays rival the best wines that Chassagne Montrachet and the other Burgundy Premier Crus and Grand Crus have to offer. Aubert’s consistency between vintages is astounding. While some pundits might hesitate to make the same comparison regarding the Pinot Noirs, it is safe to say that the Aubert wines compare favorably with wines produced from the Premier Cru vineyards of Burgundy and several of the Grand Cru vineyards. Both the Chardonnay and the Pinot Noir are equally elegant as those referenced French wines, but your problem is in getting them. If you aren’t on the winery’s list, it is very difficult to source them.

These wines will pair spectacularly with the dinner that will be prepared by Bistro by the Tracks for your party! One of Knoxville’s premier locations, your friends, John Bryant’s magnificent food, and simply some of the best Chardonnay and Pinot Noir Sonoma has to offer – you know you are in for a fabulous party! Now comes the hard part – placing the winning bid for this lot!

ABOUT THE WINES: Nestled in the northeastern corner of the Russian River Valley, Limerick Lane Cellars is a family-owned, 53-acre estate where winemaking tradition meets unparalleled terroir. With vines planted as early as 1910—six acres of which remain from the original plantings—they craft exceptional Zinfandel and Rhone varietals that authentically reflect the land they cherish. Committed to sustainable farming and production, they honor the land they steward and are grateful for the exceptional fruit they get to work with each vintage. With olive and fruit trees surrounding the property and vineyard views that will be etched in your memory forever, Limerick Lane is a magical place.

The 2015 Limerick Lane Russian River Zinfandel was rated 93 points by Antonio Galloni, who noted the aromas of blackberry, raspberry, bramble, cocoa leaf and wet stones. It has flavors of black pepper, blueberry pie crust and wet stones. The mouthfeel is opulent, structured, chewy tannin, and a long finish with laser focused acidity. “The 2015 Zinfandel Estate is fabulous. Juicy, pliant and quite giving, the 2015 is impeccably balanced, not to mention flat out delicious.” – Antonio Galloni.

The 2016 Limerick Lane Headpruned Block Syrah (100% Syrah) is deep garnet-purple colored with aromas of violets, rosemary, black pepper, and roasted meat, and flavors of strawberry, raspberry, black olive, and graphite.  This wine is opulently rich yet focused, with fine grained tannins, and a beautiful lingering finish. It is one of the prettiest and purest Syrah fruit ever found in California. “The deep garnet-purple Syrah comes bounding out of the glass like an energetic puppy.” – Robert Parker/Wine Advocate. Rated 94 points by both The Wine Advocate and Jeb Dunnuck.

The 2017 Limerick Lane 1023 Estate Cuvée is a gorgeous wine. It is an imaginative, uncompromising and artistic expression of a vintage from this extraordinary estate. On the nose you’ll experience dark red and blue fruits, dusty sage, and dried meat. The medium to full-bodied palate is bold, intense and ripe with loads of layers and flavor accenting dark cherry, tobacco, and wet stone. Focused yet rich, clean acidity, with a lifted lingering finish. Rated 97 points by Jeb Dunnuck and 94 points by Wine Enthusiast.

The 2022 Rochioli Estate Pinot Noir has pure aromas of pomegranate and rhubarb accented by notes of tobacco leaves and potpourri. The medium-bodied palate balances concentrated, earth-laced fruit with velvety tannins and bright acidity, and it has a long, bitters and citrus-laced finish.

Rated 92 points by both The Wine Advocate and Wine Spectator, and 90 points by Antonio Galloni of Vinous.

The 2022 Mascarin Whole Cluster Pinot Noir is a special bottling of 100% Pinot Noir from the Moonshine vineyard with aromatics of floral, savory, and spice. It is fermented with the whole grape cluster to give the resulting wine a structure that will carry it for years to come and protect all its delicate flavors.

The 2019 Matt Taylor Komorebi Vineyard Pinot Noir was an exceptional vintage. This wine has bright and balanced acid with complex spice and fruit notes. This wine will not disappoint. Matt Taylor, winemaker, commented that this vintage along with the 2018 are the best in bottle they have made and he argues that the 2019 may be the best Pinot Noir he has made to date.  Rated in the mid 90’s by James Suckling.

A six-bottle vertical [750mL], (2012-2017) Ramey Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon, Pedregal Vineyard, Oakville; Ramey’s crème de la crème of Cabernet Sauvignons. Each vintage rated 95-97+ points

David Ramey is among a distinguished group of pioneering American vintners who revolutionized modern-day winemaking and elevated California to the forefront of the international wine community. Ramey is steeped in the classical Bordeaux traditions of crafting age-worthy wines, having worked in Bordeaux twice, and has been making wine since the 1970s. Pedregal means rocky place in Spanish. This name is appropriate because the vineyard was forged in the sheer rock of the eastern Oakville hillside, and the finished wine shows why the effort was entirely worth it for the winery. Ramey was the guest vintner in the third year of L’Amour du Vin in 2006, where he shared his beautifully crafted wines. He has remained a good friend of the Knoxville Museum of Art and a continued supporter of L’Amour du Vin, which is evident by this incredible six bottle vertical:

Full-throttle, sexy and opaque, the 2012 Ramey Pedregal is a purple-colored wine that boasts fabulous concentration along with copious notes of pen ink, blueberries, blackberries, and hints of graphite and espresso bean. Deep, full-bodied and multidimensional, this sensational Cabernet should drink well for 20-25 years. Rated 97+ points by Robert Parker, Wine Advocate.

With a nose of ripe black berries, the 2013 Pedregal is a deep garnet-purple color and has an aroma of crushed black currants, pencil lead and dried herbs with hints of dark chocolate and menthol. Medium to full-bodied with a great intensity and harmony, it has a solid backbone of firm grainy tannins and great length. Still very youthful and primary, give it another 2-3 years in bottle and drink it over the next 20+ years. Rated 95+ points by Wine Advocate.

Featuring notes of pure crème de cassis, graphite, smoked earth, and tobacco leaf, the 2014 Pedregal is a full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon that exudes class, elegance, and purity, all while still carrying serious depth and richness. It has ripe tannin, impeccable balance and a great finish, all of which promises a long life. Rated 97 points by Jeb Dunnuck.

A classically made wine with Old World structure, the 2015 Pedregal fully embraces scents of cedar, pencil shavings and dried herb. Clove and peppercorn provide additional spice around a length of firm, integrated tannin and oak, finishing in a sanguine element of meat. Enjoy 2025–2030. Rated 95 points by Wine Enthusiast.

The 2016 Pedregal has been given time to mature in bottle and still has years to go. Cedar, pencil shavings, crushed rock and firm tannin accentuate the savory, complex concentration and intensity. Black olive, grilled meat and game contribute additional flavor and texture. Enjoy best from 2026–2036. Rated 97 points by Wine Enthusiast.

Laced with fine-grained tannins, the 2017 Pedregal is a powerful wine that supports notes of dark chocolate, quite-ripe blackberry and blueberry flavors that have a satisfying richness and depth. Best to drink from 2026-2036. Rated 95 points by Wine Enthusiast.
