The selection of vineyard sites and quality of fruit have always underpinned Penfolds reputation. Over a 175-year history, Penfolds has owned and leased some of the best vineyard sites in Australia, and work with carefully selected growers to stay true to our fruit-first philosophy of multi-vineyard, multi-regional sourcing. Today, Penfolds vineyards are located primarily across South Australia’s finest wine regions. The Grandfather name dates back to 1915, when an oak cask containing the finest blend of available Tawny material was set aside for the exclusive use of the Penfold family. This wine was known as The Grandfather due to the age of the oldest Tawny in the blend. With each vintage varietal batches are selected for Grandfather. These batches are individually aged in seasoned old oak casks before being blended together at 14 years of age. This blend is then introduced into the ‘Grandfather Solera’. This Solera consists of six stages that are designed to fully integrate all components offering consistency and freshness with a final minimum average blended age of 20 years. Beautifully presented in an exquisite gift box featuring a Penfolds stopper and certificate of authenticity, Grandfather Rare Tawny is a highly coveted gift for life’s special milestones. Wine Advocate rates the 20-year-old Penfolds Grandfather Rare Tawny 92 points. “a pale tawny color with a touch of brick. On the nose it is a bit spirituous and shows notes of raisins and fruit cake, some hazelnut and crème brulée. The palate shows even more nuttiness and depth along with greater freshness and acidity, though it seems drier than the Father. It finishes very long almost like a sweet oloroso or amontillado.”

This lot includes a stellar trio offering a memorable point of entry into Post Parade’s esteemed legacy. Praising it for its full-bodied, graceful, and balanced character, Jeb Dunnuck rates Post Parade’s 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon a 96 and cites its “impressive blue fruits, violets, and foresty, herbal notes,” “purity of fruit,” “seamless tannins,” and “great finish.” The 2019 also scores a 96 from Dunnuck, and the vintage is a brilliant medium to full-bodied wine composed from both Yountville and Calistoga fruit, offering impressive levels of cassis fruit as well as tobacco, and graphite-like nuances. It’s dense, yet also elegant and seamless. For the 2021 vintage, Post Parade blended a barrel selection of some of its best vineyard sources from both mountain and valley floor parcels. This mélange of soil influences creates a complete wine that has complex fruit density, a refined structure, and layers of intrigue. In the glass, the wine displays a completely opaque dark purple hue with a violet rim. Bid now to secure this fab cab trio for your wine cellar!

The Rochioli Vineyard and Winery is a third-generation producer of fine Sonoma County wines, and well-known for its “terroir-driven” winemaking process. The 140-acre Russian River Valley vineyard is divided into several different blocks, each with their own fascinatingly varied soils, which the winery takes full advantage of by keeping each vineyard separate from growing to bottling. This allows the discerning enthusiast to taste and contemplate subtle, nuanced differences in the same grape variety, and even vintage! Rochioli is credited as among the first to introduce this “micro-batch” process to California. The Russian River Valley as a whole, with its cooler climate and proximity to the Pacific Ocean, is well-suited to growing excellent Pinot Noir, and Rochioli’s Estate label wines embrace this fact to produce a hand-picked blend of the best of each of the Rochioli vineyards.
The 2019 Rochioli Pinot Noir Estate is among the top of its vintage worldwide, earning 93 points from both Robert Parker and Jeb Dunnuck, and 91 points from Antonio Galloni. Enjoy delightful berry aromas on the nose with earthy undertones, a medium-body palate, and vivid finish. Cellar through 2027, if you can wait that long. Included for the winning bidder is a complimentary tasting for up to four at the Winery’s intimate space overlooking its gorgeous vineyards. Tasting room is open Wednesday – Monday by appointment only. Please reference Knoxville Museum of Art when booking.

Founded in 1985 by Shari, Garen, Brandon, and Shannon Staglin, Staglin Family Vineyard takes pride in the tradition of family ownership and participation. Situated at the base of the western slopes of Mount St. John, the tallest mountain in the Mayacamas Range, this sixty-one acre property is located in an alluvial fan containing rich volcanic soils. As stewards of this land, the Staglin family farms the vineyard organically and taps into their solar fields for power and produce the wines in a state-of-the-art underground production facility. Their 24,000 ft² underground production facility is customized to enhance the unique characteristics of this vineyard. The Staglin family is passionate about the business, land, philanthropy, and the relationships developed and shared through the passion of wine.
The 2009 season is likely to be remembered as a serene and nearly flawless year, steering clear of any extremes. A relatively gentle, somewhat dry winter transitioned into more substantial later winter/early spring rains. This weather pattern allowed Staglin to minimize irrigation and maintain a balanced vine stress. While May and June experienced small heat waves and rainstorms, leading to some shatter, this naturally limited yields. However, it also allowed the vines to concentrate their ripening energy on the remaining clusters. The absence of the usual late-August heat wave was beneficial, ensuring that the grapes continued ripening evenly without excessive pressure or stress. As a result, the grapes developed ripe and mature flavors without accumulating excess sugar. The brilliant weather persisted through September and early October, enabling Staglin to harvest most of the fruit before rains arrived later in the month.

With over 100 different barrels maturing in the aging cellar, every visit to the Experimental Distillery is an exploration of the past, present and future of hand-crafted bourbon. Procure this lot to enjoy not one, but two tours and tastings of the Experimental Distillery.
Chattanooga Whiskey 91: Tennessee High Malt is a bourbon that takes a rich, malt-forward approach, meticulously crafted to accentuate the complexity of its ingredients. Known as “Barrel 91,” this signature Tennessee High Malt recipe is the result of a careful selection process from the initial 100 barrels produced at the Experimental Distillery. Comprising four grains, including three specialty malts, the journey begins with a 7-day fermentation, emphasizing the high-malt character and infusing a nuanced, fruity complexity into the spirit.
Following fermentation, each batch undergoes distillation in a custom 30ft. column still before aging in charred and toasted oak barrels. This unique cooperage imparts a balanced, confection-rich character to the aged whiskey, harmonizing seamlessly with its malty richness. After maturing for over two years, Chattanooga Whiskey 91 employs a solera finishing process, uniting almost 100 barrels into a 4,000-gallon, charred, white oak Solera finishing barrel.
The mash bill, consisting of yellow corn, malted rye, caramel malted barley, and honey malted barley, contributes to the distinct flavor profile. Aged for more than 2 years, this straight bourbon whiskey boasts a proof of 91 (45.5% ALC/VOL) and offers tasting notes of butterscotch pudding, dried apricot, honeyed toast, and pound cake. The non-chill filtration, 53-gallon toasted and charred oak barrels, and the 4,000-gallon charred oak Solera barrel collectively define the exquisite character of Chattanooga Whiskey 91.

Three magnums [1.5L] of vintage California Pinot Noir, one each:
- Landmark 2000 Kastania Pinot Noir
- Martinelli 2004 Bondi Home Ranch Pinot Noir
- Martinelli 2004 Zio Tony Ranch Pinot Noir
The Martinelli Family has been farming land and growing grapes in Sonoma County for over 135 years, consistently providing their winemaking team with exceptional fruit. Some of its vineyards are among the steepest non-terraced parcels in all of Sonoma County. This results in wines that are deeply concentrated in flavor due to their exposure to the sun and ability to hang on the vine well into the harvest season because of the cooling slope winds. The current generation of Martinellis includes Regina who so charmingly represented the winery at L’Amour du Vin 2010 and made many long-term friends in our community. The first of the two Marinelli wines in this lot, Bondi Home Ranch Water Trough Vineyard 2004, hails from the Green Valley, a little-known Eden for Burgundian varietals. It sits at the southernmost tip of the Russian River Valley and was planted with Dijon clones by Lee Martinelli Sr. Wine Advocate gives a rating of 89 points and states that “The 2004 Pinot Noir Bondi Home Ranch Water Trough Vineyard reveals aromas and flavors of pomegranate, berries, and spicy, meaty characteristics.”
The 2004 Martinelli “Zio Tony Ranch” is grown in the Russian River Valley vineyard. Among Sonoma County’s northernmost appellations, the Alexander Valley produces some of the state’s finest and most sought-after Pinot Noir. With a rating of 91 points Wine Spectator calls it “A Pinot with grace, finesse and polish, with layers of smoky, creamy cherry cobbler flavors, right down to the crust. Elegant and polished, it keeps repeating the tantalizing flavors.”
Landmark Vineyards was founded in 1974 in Windsor, California. In 1989, Damaris Deere Ford, became sole proprietor and relocated the winery to Sonoma Valley. Ford is a descendant of John Deere, founder of the world’s largest tractor manufacturer. In 1993, world-renowned consulting enologist Helen Turley was hired to work with former winemaker, Eric Stern. Landmark Vineyard’s mission is “to make great wines that enhance the joy of life.” The five-acre, seven-year-old Kastania vineyard is a hillside, sandy-loam and clayey bottomland site. It is in the fairly temperate zone of the cooler Sonoma Coastal appellation, also known for the quality of its Pinot Noir. 2000 saw a slow, balanced growing season and consequently a balanced vintage. The winemaker finds that this balance makes this Landmark Kastania a wine without the extremes of high alcohol or excessive acidity to interrupt its seamless suppleness. It has aromas are of subtle strawberry, rhubarb preserves, with chamois, bacony notes, and a woodsy scent of mushrooms. Wine.com gives a rating of 90 points.
These three magnums will provide a lovely tasting tour of Sonoma, California pinots for you and your friends in the comfort of your home.

Since its launch in 1992, Lewis Cellars, now one of Napa Valley’s finest producers, has sourced the finest fruit from Calistoga, St. Helena, Rutherford, and Oak Knoll for its red varietals. Each site is selected for a specific varietal character, with many of the vineyards being planted exclusively for Lewis. They have chosen low-vigor rootstocks and a selection of clones to give balanced vines and modest yields, producing maximum flavors.
Lewis’s 2021 Cabernet ranks among its best bottlings of Napa Cabernet. Enticing, deep-fruited aromas of black currant, berry, and chocolate are stippled with cedar, clove, and cinnamon oak spices. The palate centers on opulent core fruit that swirls around a defined structure of supple tannins. With complex undertones of truffle, black pepper, and briar, this interplay finally winds down to a long chocolaty finish. This Cabernet was Wine Spectator’s #1 Wine in the World in 2016!

Epoch specializes in wines made from Rhone varieties that thrive in the particular conditions in Paso Robles, California—its weather, unique soils, hilliness, and extreme temperature swings found within each of Epoch’s vineyard sites – Paderewski, Catapult, and York Mountain. Today Epoch stewards these lands, producing wines that are carefully crafted from Rhone, Zinfandel, Tempranillo, and as of recently, a few Bordeaux varieties.
Epoch’s Tempranillo is so distinctly different from all its other wines in aroma, flavor, and most obviously tannin structure. Big and juicy red plum and pomegranate fruits lead the entry as cinnamon and oak spice tumble around the palate, intensified by a cascade of chewy, multi-faceted tannins that fold from front to back. This wine resides at the intersection of rustic and refined and once again has earned his spurs to be deemed our Spanish cowboy.

Explore the historic grounds, learn how they set the standard of excellence in spirits and hospitality, and take in the beauty that Castle & Key is known for.
In 1887, Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor, Jr. built a new kind of distillery destination in Millville, Kentucky. Inspired by European architecture, the site featured a Castle, a classical Springhouse, and a Sunken Garden. What he built became the birthplace of bourbon hospitality and tourism.
Prohibition forced the closing of the distillery in 1920. Over the next century, the distillery fell into ruin.
In 2012, Will Arvin discovered the property and immediately felt an affinity for its legacy and potential. It was then that he resolved to restore the historic bourbon icon.
“We did not renovate the distillery – we restored it.” Castle & Key was chosen as the perfect name to highlight both the historic distillery in the Castle and the importance of the grounds and water source, the iconic keyhole-shaped Springhouse.
Over the years following, the team conquered multiple milestones – the release of the first Castle & Key clear spirits in April 2018, the Grand Opening of the distillery in September 2018, and the release of Restoration Rye, Castle & Key’s first aged spirit in December 2020. In March 2022, Castle & Key Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey became the first bourbon distillate that has been distilled and released at the Historic Old Taylor Distillery in nearly five decades.
Taking up Colonel Taylor’s sensibilities for excellence, they source local ingredients to inspire their product. Making everything that they sell from carefully selected grains. Choosing to do things the thoughtful way – even though it’s not the easy way – because waiting to sell the spirits they make is worth it. Reimagining how Kentucky spirits are presented to the world.
“Every sip of our Single Barrel Bourbon is a testament to our unwavering commitment to precision and excellence, meticulously handcrafted to perfection for those who appreciate the finer details. Each batch of our Restoration Rye Whiskey is blended using a series of pods. Each pod is created by grouping barrels to create a unique sensory profile.”
On your tour and tasting experience: four guests will walk the picturesque Botanical Trail and gardens, admire the Springhouse, taste the flagship spirits at Taylorton Station, and take home a piece of history with you from the Boiler Room. Experience the history and architecture from 1887 to today.
The winning bidder will leave the tasting experience with one bottle of rye and one bottle of bourbon of their choosing. Expires January 1, 2026.

This wine received a stellar 97 from Robert Parker.com and a 96 from Jeb Dunnuck, who were both captivated by its pale to medium ruby-purple color and delicate aromas of lavender, tea leaves, saline, and crushed red berries. As it breathes, the wine reveals deeper tones of fragrant earth and licorice. On the palate, it’s as smooth as silk, with bright, crunchy, spicy fruits that are firm yet finely detailed. The finish is an explosion of flavors, leaving a lasting impression. With only 100 cases produced, this is a truly rare gem. The 2019 East of Eden Pisoni Vineyard Chardonnay is a revelation of the varietal’s potential. Scoring an extraordinary 98 points from Jeb Dunnuck, it begins as a reserved and tight wine that gradually unfurls its complexity with a bit of time in the glass. Crushed citrus, honeysuckle, flower oil, and honeyed minerality emerge, creating a medium to full-bodied wine of perfect balance. Its liquid rock-like minerality adds depth to the palate, while integrated acidity and flawless balance ensure a great finish. This Chardonnay, a testament to Paul Lato’s genius, is a stunning expression of the Pisoni Vineyard terroir and will continue to evolve gracefully over the next 7-8 years, if not a decade. The mission of Vineyard Brands is to select and offer wines of the best quality and value from the best places on Earth so that there is absolute confidence in any wine with “Imported by Vineyard Brands” on the label. This 2021 Chateau de Beaucastel is no exception hailing from Châteauneuf-du-Pape a historic wine region located between the towns of Orange and Avignon, in France’s southern Rhône Valley. It is famous for powerful, full-bodied red wine, largely made from the classic southern Rhône grape trio of Grenache-Syrah-Mourvèdre.
Grenache buds early but ripens late. It thrives in warm climates and likes stony soils like gravel, limestone, clay, and sand. In Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the vineyards are studded with large, round stones called galets roulés. The wines tend to have low to moderate acidity, and the berries can reach high sugar levels, resulting in relatively high-alcohol wines, but still retaining balance with vibrant fruit.
Toasty, meaty, and inviting, this fresh red shows an understated, savory side, with notes of singed spices, mesquite, wet earth, and fresh tobacco leaf flanking a silky range of plum and warm cherry compote flavors. This wine channels its terroir, with a round feel held in check by refined tannins, while the finish is lined with cool minerality and heavy iron. Rated 94 points by Wine Spectator and Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.
Joe Czerwinski of Wine Enthusiast recently visited with Cesar Perrin, who supervises the winemaking at Château de Beaucastel. Speaking of the upcoming renovations to the winery, he says they are working towards “a new standard in sustainability” as well as working in the vineyard to further balance the alcohol to pH ratios while maintaining the dark fruit and supple tannins the region is known for. Noting that “overall, the 2021s here have turned out very well, with Cesar calling it, ‘a nice vintage, in quantity and quality.” (Published October 2023)

Caymus Vineyards is located in the center of the Napa Valley. Primary production is Cabernet Sauvignon grown on low-fertility soils on both the valley floor and the mountains that surround the valley. Attention to viticulture details, some dry farming, high-density plantings (with some blocks spaced as close as meter x meter), thinning of the yield, along with healthy vines and harvesting at an elevated degree of ripeness – all of these elements produce a unique and singular style of Cabernet. While the wine has sufficient tannins and structure for long-term bottle aging, Caymus Cabernet is dark and concentrated, with ripe, luxurious, fruit-driven softness that shows from the day of release. This 2017 vintage is lush and very forward, with velvety textured waves of cassis, mulled plum, and blackberry reduction mixed with flashes of mocha and roasted vanilla. This is long, with seamless structure letting the fruit play out. “For the hedonist crowd” – rated 94 by Wine Spectator.
The Cakebread Cellars 2017 is very deep purple-black colored, with a pronounced nose of crème de cassis, blackberry tart, and warm mulberries with touches of Chinese five spice, camphor, and tar. Medium to full-bodied, the palate features loads of black fruit preserves, framed by chewy tannins and great freshness, finishing with a compelling herbal lift. Rated 90 points Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. Rounding out this trio, Duckhorn Vineyards 2017 Cab, is a wine that embodies the complexity of the valley while offering a seamless balance between fruit, oak, and tannins. To add nuance, the Cabernet is blended with Merlot, yielding a wine that is approachable in its youth, yet worthy of cellaring. This wine is Lush, energetic, and intense, this gorgeous Cabernet begins with aromas of blackberry, huckleberry, and chocolate, as well as hints of mint, cardamom, clove, and graham cracker. On the palate, it displays lovely brightness, with firm, resolved tannins framing flavors of boysenberry and black currant. As it evolves in the glass, subtle sweet and savory notes are revealed, carrying the wine to a long, focused finish. Rated 90 by Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast.

The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate comes all from the estate Monte Bello Vineyard on the eastern side of the Santa Cruz Mountains, California, which is much warmer than the western side of the region. A blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Merlot that was brought up in 55% new American oak, it has a bright and vibrant perfume of black plums, smoked herbs, darker chocolate, and vanilla-laced oak. It’s firm, focused, and linear on the palate, with medium to full body, nicely integrated acidity, and building tannins. It should benefit from a year or two in the cellar; enjoy bottles over the following decade. Rated 90 by Jeb Dunnuck.
Monte Bello is first and foremost a wine of place. That place – high atop the Santa Cruz Mountains underlain by decomposing limestone and Franciscan rock – produces a wine unlike any other. It is their belief that this vineyard with its very low-yielding vines (less than two tons per acre) is capable of creating a wine of great significance, depth, complexity, and aging potential – but only if they take care in sustaining it. Vineyard practices, therefore, do not intervene; rather they use and preserve the existing ecosystem. At Ridge Vineyard, they call their approach to winemaking “pre-industrial.” They believe that for anyone attempting to make fine wine, modern additives, and industrial processing limit true quality. Their philosophy comes from the techniques used in the finest 19th-century California wineries and Bordeaux chateaux.
Ridge Vineyards is committed to sustainable wine growing and farming its vineyards organically. They are the largest grower of organically certified grapes in Sonoma County and in the Santa Cruz Mountains appellation. Sustainability is both a philosophy and a set of environmentally responsible practices designed to safeguard the land on which the grapes are grown. It seeks to conserve and renew natural resources, protect wildlife habitats, and ensure the safety and economic security of its employees.
Since 1962, Ridge Vineyards has championed single-vineyard winemaking, searching California for those rare and exceptional vineyards where climate, soil, and variety are ideally matched.

A good wine reveals to the world the soul of its vineyard, evokes its traditions, and developments, and encapsulates the unique notes of the season that ripened its grapes. Every vintage arouses a different emotion, making it truly unique. The difference is real history, the fragrant lands, and the everyday lives of the people. The ambition of Beni di Batasiolo is to reflect this difference in its wines.
Beni di Batasiolo is the story of the Dogliani family who has lived the world of wine for five generations in Italy’s Langhe district, and whose vineyards have contributed immensely to making Italian wines famous the world over. They take on this challenge with immense passion, crafting wines that conserve the richness of their identity, from the vine to the chalice, wherever they are tasted.
Today the production is overseen by their oenologists Oreste Dogliani and Paolo Pronzato and is the internationally renowned zone for growing the celebrated Nebbiolo da Barolo grape.
This is a place where, by tradition, the idea of “beni” takes on tangible value: the vines, the farmsteads, the people living and working there, and the evocative landscape of soft, rolling hills and orderly vineyards. This is the experience the wines of the Langhe have always offered the world.

2016: The Wine Advocate gave the Tignanello a rating of 97 points. Scheduled for release in June, this wine is described as exceptionally solid and strikingly beautiful. Monica Larner, with W.A., notes its precise delivery of flavors, including fruits, spices, earthy tones, espresso, and Mediterranean herbs. Following the traditional blend of 80% Sangiovese, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 7% Cabernet Franc, this vintage showcases vines aged between 15 to 20 years. Contrasting with the chewy succulence of the 2015 vintage, the 2016 expression displays heightened vibrancy, nervous energy, and a lively character, with added layers of savory spice, saltiness, and minerality. Larner praises its well-integrated tannins, lauding it as one of the finest Tignanello releases alongside notable years such as 2007, 2009, 2010, 2013, and 2015. Additionally, Vinous awarded it a rating of 98, while Wine Spectator gave it a score of 97.
2015: The Tignanello was rated at 96 points by the Wine Advocate. This vintage is described as reminiscent of a fully blossomed rose, immediately accessible, generous, and opulent. Monica Larner, with W.A., anticipates that the wine will further develop and gain focus with aging, but highlights its remarkable drinkability upon release. The flavors showcase ripe fruit notes of blackberry and cherry, along with hints of spice, leather, sweet tobacco, and smoke. Unlike previous years, the blending components for Tignanello were blended sooner in the winemaking process to enhance overall integration starting from the 2015 vintage. The Tignanello estate, encompassing 130 hectares of vines, produces this wine from a single-vineyard spanning 57 hectares. The vintage yielded approximately 340,000 bottles. Additionally, Vinous and Wine Spectator both awarded the wine a score of 96.
2014: Given high marks all around, the 2014 vintage was rated it 91 by The Wine Spectator, while Vinous awarded it a score of 96. In 2014, Monica Larner of The Wine Advocate awarded Tignanello a rating of 93 points. Notably, this vintage, with an unlisted release price, is recommended to be enjoyed between 2018 and 2028. Larner praises Tignanello’s consistent identity and character, describing it as among the most distinct and recognizable wines globally. Despite facing unique growing conditions, the 2014 Tignanello maintains its beauty and balance, featuring sweet tannins and a well-integrated oak texture. Larner emphasizes the wine’s sense of harmony, achieved through meticulous attention to measure and proportion, resulting in an elegant rather than forceful expression. Comprising 75% Sangiovese, this vintage displays a slightly larger Cabernet presence than usual, contributing to its refined and delicate profile.
2013: Wine Spectator and Vinous both rated this vintage at 95 points. Monica Larner of The Wine Advocate awarded the Tignanello a rating of 96 points and describes it as marking the beginning of a new era for this transformative Italian wine. While the blend remains consistent at 80% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Cabernet Franc, winemaker Renzo Cotarella emphasizes a stylistic evolution. Notably, the vineyard’s age, now at 15 years old, enhances the wine’s quality, reaching its production prime. Larner characterizes it as a harmonious and well-integrated wine, highlighting notes of black fruit and baking spice.
2012: Monica Larner of The Wine Advocate gave this Tignanello a rating of 93 points. She describes it as exceptionally attractive, showcasing dark fruit flavors that exceed the typical range for Sangiovese, along with contributions from smaller proportions of French grapes. Despite a hot summer followed by a cooler harvest season, this vintage displays added spice and Mediterranean herb notes on the finish. Grapes were harvested at the end of September, resulting in slightly lower alcohol content compared to previous years. Larner notes a balance between freshness and mature, yielding tannins, with precise tannic management enhancing the wine’s velvety and rich mouthfeel. Mineral nuances contribute to its complexity, indicating potential for successful evolution. Wine Spectator rated it 92, while Vinous awarded it a score of 95.
2011: This vintage was described as exhibiting a ripe and fruit-forward character, with prominent cherry and blackberry flavors intertwined with sweet spice, moist tobacco, and honey-almond notes. The Wine Advocate assigned it a rating of 93 points and says the texture is heavy and dense, with occasional patches of sweetness attributed to its 14.5% alcohol content. Despite its fruit-forward profile, Larner notes that it doesn’t quite achieve the same heights of complexity seen in cooler vintages. However, she anticipates that with additional bottle age, it will develop greater focus and tightness. Additionally, Wine Spectator also rated this vintage at 93 points.

The 2014 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon from Vineyard 7 & 8 heralds the beginning of a new era, with Martha McClellan joining as Winemaker, bringing her expertise to the forefront. The focus of this vintage was on preserving freshness and aromatics while enhancing length and texture, all while staying true to the tension and integrity characteristic of Cabernet from Spring Mountain. A third of the wine underwent whole berry fermentation in new French oak barrels, resulting in remarkable complexity. Martha and her team take pride in this inaugural vintage, promising a wine that will delight enthusiasts. Exhibiting a deep purple core, the wine entices with notes of violets and spice on the nose, while the palate offers a harmonious blend of black and red fruits in a sweet and savory balance. Critically acclaimed, it received 95 points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate and Wine Spectator in October 2018 and 2017 respectively, with an additional 93+ points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate in October 2017. Hand-picked at physiological ripeness during early to mid-October, the 2014 growing season started with dry and warm conditions, leading to a slightly smaller yet beautiful crop. Summer temperatures facilitated even maturity and ideal stress management in the vineyards, while an Indian Summer in fall ensured full physiological ripeness. Comprising 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine underwent double hand sorting and a meticulous fermentation process, with thirty percent aged in new French oak barrels for 26 months. With an alcohol content of 14.9% and a case production of 650, this vintage embodies the winemakers’ dedication to showcasing the purity of fruit and fresh aromatics unique to their estate.

The 2015 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon from Vineyard 7 & 8 embodies the essence of premium mountain-grown wines, showcasing purity, freshness, and a beautiful tension that defines its character. With a rich and creamy texture leading to a long, seamless finish, this vintage mirrors the qualities admired in its predecessor. Like the 2014 vintage, almost forty percent of this blend underwent whole berry fermentation in new French Oak barrels, contributing to heightened aromatics, rich texture, and seamless tannin integration. Released in fall 2018, this wine has garnered critical acclaim, receiving 97+ points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate in October 2018, and 94-96 points in October 2017. The 2015 growing season in Napa Valley saw warmer temperatures in late winter and early spring, leading to an early bud break and bloom. Cooler temperatures during peak bloom resulted in a lighter crop compared to other years, but ideal conditions during the remainder of the season ensured exceptional quality. Hand-picked at physiological ripeness during early to mid-October, the wine underwent double hand sorting and a meticulous fermentation process, with thirty percent aged in new French Oak barrels for 26 months. With an alcohol content of 14.9% and a case production of 540, this vintage, crafted by Winemaker Martha McClellan, promises to reveal its beauty upon release and continue to evolve gracefully for years to come. Lisa Perotti-Brown of Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate describes it as displaying a deep garnet-purple color, with earthy and herbal notes complementing a core of cassis, plums, and blackberries, finishing long and earthy with firm, grainy tannins.

“There’s no place like Rhône.” And no name is more closely associated with the greatness of the Rhône valley than Chapoutier. Known for a commitment to excellence Chapoutier has earned the most 90+ point ratings of all Rhône producers 16 of their wines have scored a perfect 100. Ermitage de l’Orée 2003 earned a 99-point rating from Robert Parker who called it “Nearly perfect, one of the most prodigious dry white wines I have ever tasted is the 2003 Ermitage Cuvee de l’Oree. . . It offers aromas and flavors beyond anything I have previously tasted in a dry white. It tastes like a liqueur of licorice intermixed with a liqueur of honeysuckle, quince, and rocks. Opulent, viscous, and full-bodied, at first glance, it is seemingly fragile and over the top, but it boasts extraordinary freshness and liveliness as well as monster concentration and a finish that lasts over 60 seconds.
The Ermitage de l’Ermite 1998 is a Syrah with an intense and distinctive perfume reminiscent of briar fruit, tar, spice, and black pepper and its firm structure. One of few black grape varietals frequently vinified on its own, the best examples of Syrah come from the Northern Rhône, particularly Hermitage. Wine Advocate gives it 98 points “Chapoutier’s Ermitage l’Ermite possesses a transparent character that almost allows the taster to see through the wine’s multiple levels. What stands out is the liqueur of granite liquid minerality. The elegant 1998 Ermitage l’Ermite rouge is light, but exquisitely balanced, with subtle notes of smoke and black currants. The flavors unfold gently and gracefully, with nothing overstated. The power is restrained, the tannin is well-integrated, and the acidity is barely noticeable. However, the wine is fresh and beautifully delineated. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2040. (RP)”
A Rhône collection would not be complete without Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Wines have been produced around this village since before the time of the Romans. In 1309 Pope Clement V moved the papacy to Avignon and the wines he and later popes enjoyed there became famous. Named for the “Pope’s New Castle” Châteauneuf-du-Pape became France’s first AOC designated region.
Domaine du Pegau (formerly Domaine Feraud fils) was established by Laurence Feraud and her father Paul whose ancestors have farmed olives, cherries, and grapes in Châteauneuf-du-Pape since the 17th century. They are committed to quality and authenticity. Wine Spectator gave their 1998 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Reservée a rating of 96 points “One of the riper, more exotic wines of the vintage, this gushes with black currant, fig and blackberry fruit, all of which has melded together and is starting to show a corrupt edge, while the sweet bacon, spice, mesquite and clove-studded blood orange notes fill out the background. The long, very juicy finish is multilayered and supported by fresh acidity.”

Even today, nearly a decade after his passing, Bartolo Mascarello remains one of the icons of Barolo as much for his outspoken views as for his wines themselves. Wine.com related this wonderful history. “When Barolo producers began producing ‘Single-Cru’ wines in the 60’s and ’70s, Bartolo refused to follow suit claiming staunchly that his blended wine, made from their four vineyards in Barolo and La Morra, made a better wine combined than as single-vineyard expressions. To this day, this same philosophy and practice remains firmly in place. And when Barrique-aged Barolo became popular in the late ’80s and ’90s, Bartolo was quick to decry his opposition (as well as to Italy’s extremely popular though corrupt leader, Silvio Berlusconi) by designing a now infamous hand-written label with the words, “No Barrique, No Berlusconi” emblazoned across the front. These labels, as well as others that Bartolo had designed, were often randomly slipped into cases with their regular labeled bottles, much like the golden tickets in Willy Wonka, and are prized possessions for the die-hard Bartolo fan!” Rated 94 points by Vinous and 93 points by Wine Spectator. “While much of the hype on the most recent string of extraordinary vintages in Piemonte has justifiably focused on the 2001s and the 1996s, the 1999 vintage has also produced some brilliant young wines, and chief amongst these would be Bartolo Mascarello’s Barolo. There is already a seamless refinement to the ’99 on both the nose and palate that is extremely rare in traditionally-made Barolo, and which is very exciting for the ultimate shape of this wine at maturity. The very elegant young nose offers up a mélange of red and black cherries, roses, licorice, delicate undertones of tariness, woodsmoke, and fresh herbs. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, pure, and almost velvety for a young Bartolo, with great structure and focus, a brilliant core of sappy fruit, firm, ripe, and well-integrated tannins, and great length and grip on the potentially silky finish. This is a brilliant wine in the making, that may well give both the 2001 and the 1996 a run for their money. 94+ John Gilman, View from the Cellars.
The most widely planted grape in Italy is Sangiovese, a high-acid grape with moderate to high tannins, apparent earthiness, and subtle fruit. It is thought to have originated in Tuscany and its name, which translates to “blood of Jove,” leads historians to believe it may date all the way back to the Etruscan period, though historical mentions only go as far back as the early 1700s. Though planted all over modern Italy, the most significant wines made from Sangiovese still come from Tuscany: Considered the finest expression of the Sangiovese grape, Brunello di Montalcino is the standard bearer for the Tuscan variety. Brunello di Montalcino is one of Italy’s most revered wines, and arguably represents the apex of what the Sangiovese grape is capable of. In 1980 Brunello di Montalcino was among the four wines awarded the first denominazione di origine controllata e garantita (DOCG) designation. The next three wines in this lot are excellent representatives.
The Argiano estate was established in 1580 and is one of the most prestigious and historical properties in the area. The name is thought to derive from the first settlements in Roman times – ‘Ara Janus’, referring to the god Janus. Another potential origin could be ‘the land of the River Orcia’ – known in ancient times as ‘Orgia’ and therefore Argiano. Poet, writer, and literary critic Giosuè Carducci (835-1907) declaimed in his verse: “I cleanse myself of this bitterness with the wine of Argiano, which is extremely good…” The Argiano Brunello di Montalcino 1997 scored 96 points with Vinous “Deep garnet core with a ruby rim. Heady sottobosco aroma reminiscent of sweet pipe tobacco laced with the perfumed scent of violets. Deep plum flavor mingles with cherry jam, bitter chocolate, and roasted coffee bean; very fresh and clear. The wine offers a superb sense of depth and harmony on the middle palate, and the tannins are firm but ripe. The long, silky finish is graced by an undercurrent of anise. Generous, suave, and delicious.”
Castello Banfi is a family-owned vineyard estate and winery in the Brunello region of Tuscany. Together with its sister estates in Piedmont, Vigne Regali and Principessa Gavia, it has become recognized the world over for its dedication to excellence and sparking a renaissance in the art of Italian winemaking. The Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino 1997 also scores well, 94 with Wine Spectator and 97 with Vinous which says “Very dark garnet with saturated purple hues. Penetrating aromas of underbrush, sweet tobacco and wild mushroom. Quite juicy, but also sumptuous and deep, with rich flavors of mocha, espresso and anise over a firm mineral backbone. There is no evidence of excess weight in spite of the wine generous structure. The long close features glossy tannins and a flavor of cassis. At once powerful and elegant. Among the largest producers in Montalcino, Castello Banfi is arguably the one making the best Brunellos today, with a remarkable string of successes since 1990.”
The youngest contender in this group of Brunello producers is Valdicava. Situated about 20 minutes drive north of Montalcino close to Montesoli, the Valdicava estate was purchased by the current owner Vincenzo Abbruzzese’s grandfather in 1953. They have been making Brunello has since 1968. But they have started strong. Wine Advocate gives the Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino 1997 94 points. Vinous 93 points and says, “It is a perfect example of how unique this vintage really is.” This is remarkably pretty and inviting with a brilliant display of sugar-dusted cherries dried strawberries and crushed lavender candies. Its medium-bodied framework carries silky textures across the palate in an expression that is both delicate yet potent savory yet sweet and with outstanding purity of fruit. Rounded tannins linger creating a lightly structured feel as rosy inner florals combine with sour citrus and notes of licorice that linger incredibly long. This is unlike any vintage of Valdicava that I’ve ever tasted and yet I can’t help but come back to the glass over and over again. Only 800 cases of the 2017 Brunello were produced which is mostly fruit from Madonna del Piano and Montosoli. Don’t miss it.” — Eric Guido. James Suckling gives it 95 points and adds “Perfumed and bright for the vintage. Full-bodied and firm with chewy yet polished tannins and a succulent and fruity finish that is in line and framed. Give it two or three years to soften. Try after 2023.” So now is the perfect time to bid!

A spectacular experience awaits with this outstanding lot. The AXR V Madrone Vineyard is renowned for its ability to craft exceptional wines and this collection is a testament to their commitment to excellence. Each year boasts its own specific nuance, from the bold structure of 2014 to the refined elegance of 2019. James Suckling gave 2019 a score of 95 and described it as having “Plenty of blackcurrant, chocolate and vanilla character. It’s full and chewy, yet polished and curated. Give it three or four years to come together. Try after 2024.” The 2018 was reviewed by both James Suckling and Jeb Dunnuck. Suckling scored it a 96 and described it as; “Aromatic with currant, fresh mushroom and bark with some redwood. Lovely, dense and rich fruit. Full-bodied and balanced with soft, ripe tannins that frame the wine nicely. Lovely finish. Some currant and blackberry in the aftertaste. Dark chocolate. Drink after 2023.” Jeb Dunnuck scored the same wine a 93 and said; “Lots of ripe blackcurrants, tobacco, gravelly earth, and violet notes emerge from the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon V Madrone Vineyard, a rich, tannic, medium to full-bodied Cabernet that needs a solid 4-5 years or more of bottle age. I like its balance, and it has wonderful purity of fruit as well as a great finish, but there are a lot of tannins here.” Not only are you biding on a six-year vertical, this lot also includes an exclusive Tour and Tasting Certificate for four adults at the pre-prohibition site of the AXR V Madrone Vineyard. Two magnums [1.5L] Morlet Family Vineyards 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon One Each: Cœur de Vallée and Passionnément
There’s no bigger passion – or heart – than that of Winemaker Luc Morlet. Morlet Family Vineyards was the 2022 L’Amour du Vin featured winery with Luc Morlet in attendance to introduce the wines. If you were there, you know! The wines are tremendous and Luc and his wife Jodie are among the most kind, generous people around.
Their winery is located in St. Helena, conveniently the heart of the Napa Valley, where Luc and Jodie handcraft vins de terroirs and unique cuvées from the surrounding Napa Valley and Sonoma Coast. Meticulously farmed vineyards and low-intervention winemaking techniques produce powerful yet refined wines displaying personality, complexity, and graceful aging capability. By taking Old World principles and adapting them to California, the Morlet style results in wines which are harmonious in their intensity, richness, and refinement. Unwavering commitment to quality leads to small yields, attentive sorting, and the highest standard when blending. Thus, a very limited amount of each wine is produced.
Having received tremendous accolades and international recognition, the highly sought-after wines from Morlet Family Vineyards are available to the winery’s mailing list and can be found at the finest restaurants and specialty wine shops around the world. The wines offered in this lot include:
The 2017 ‘Cœur de Vallée’ Cabernet Sauvignon offers lots of smoky black fruits, graphite, and mineral notes emerge from the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Coeur De Valle, which comes from a mix of To Kalon and the Coeur de Vallee Vineyard and is 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc. It shows the more plush style of To Kalon and is one of the more approachable Cabernets in the lineup, offering full-bodied richness, beautiful mid-palate depth, and a plush, sexy mouthfeel. It still has enough underlying tannins to warrant a few years of bottle age, but it’s going to drink beautifully for a solid two decades. Rated 96 – Jeb Dunnuck.
The 2017 ‘Passionnement’ Cabernet Sauvignon is a gorgeous wine that will stand up to anything in the vintage and is a heavenly wine. Loads of blackcurrants, cassis, damp earth, chocolate, and green tobacco dominate the bouquet of this powerful, full-bodied, opulent wine, which offers more decadence and sweet fruit than almost every other 2017 out there. With beautiful depth of fruit, ripe, silky tannins, and a blockbuster of a finish, it needs a year or three of bottle age and will evolve for two decades or more. The ‘Passionnement’ is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and is always a selection across the single vineyards. Rated 98 by Jeb Dunnuck, 96 by Antonio Galloni.

Don Rafael López de Heredia acquired Viña Tondonia in 1913, a stunning vineyard spanning over 247 acres in Rioja Alta, situated on the right bank of the Ebro River, Spain. The soil is Alluvial clay with a high limestone concentration, nurturing four red grape varieties: Tempranillo, Mazuelo, Graciano, and Garnacho. The Viña Tondonia Reserva 2011 garnered praise from Wine & Spirits Magazine, earning 93 points for its fresh, generous character. This wine, predominantly Tempranillo, with Garnacho, Graciano, and Mazuelo, undergoes hand-harvesting in late September to early October, followed by spontaneous fermentation in large vats. After six years in American oak barrels and at least four years in bottle, it reveals a rich nose of leather, black cherry, and spices, leading to a full palate with firm tannins and a complex development. Its deep garnet color and versatile gastronomic pairings make it a standout choice for any occasion.
Crafted in select vintages when grapes reach optimal health and balance, 2016 Viña Pedrosa Gran Reserva stands as an apex of winemaking prowess. Handpicked from specific plots and older vines, these grapes undergo meticulous vinification to create a wine of extraordinary depth and complexity. Highly regarded by critics such as Wine Advocate and earning 94 points from Dr. Owen Bargreen, this Gran Reserva boasts textbook aromas of truffles and forest floor, accompanied by intense flavors of black currants, tar, and espresso, framed by refined tannins. Aged for over three years, including time in both French and American oak barrels, it develops an elegant aging bouquet and a wide, opulent palate with structured tones of wood and spice. Its vibrant color and remarkable longevity make it a versatile companion for rich, flavorful dishes like lamb, game meats, and flame-grilled steaks, ensuring a memorable dining experience. With only 8,925 bottles produced, the 2016 Viña Pedrosa Gran Reserva continues this tradition, displaying powerful earthy and spicy notes alongside fine-grained and polished tannins, resulting in a truly exceptional wine. This vintage, bottled in February 2019, received 95 points from both Luis Gutiérrez of Wine Advocate and also from Robert Parker.
The Mestres 2016 Visol Gran Reserve Brut Cava, made from Xarel·lo, Macabeo, and Parellada grapes grown in clay and calcareous soils. Marked by warm and dry conditions, and harvested early due to the dry weather, the vintage saw a providential rain in July. Following the first alcoholic fermentation and aging in stainless steel and chestnut barrels, the wine underwent a second fermentation in the bottle, resting on lees for over 6 years. With a production of 27,484 bottles, this sparkling wine presents a straw yellow color with fine bubbles, offering creamy, toasted, and smoked notes with hints of fennel, brioche, chamomile, and citrus on the palate. The Xarel·lo variety contributes significantly to its character, resulting in a dry yet mellow wine with balanced acidity and special complexity. Best served between 8 and 15º C.

Seven bottles [750mL] of European wine, one each; Bricco Rocche 1982 “Barolo,” Brunello di Montalcino 1982 “La Poderina,” Clos-Vougeot 1985 “Robert Arnoux,” Cordier Chateau 1988 Gruaud Larose, Leonetti Cellar 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon, Walla Walla Valley, and two bottles [750mL] Château Fombrauge 2000 Saint-Emilion Grand Cru
1982 Bricco Rocche “Barolo”: This wine comes from a small but prestigious parcel in the Barolo appellation. It benefits from perfectly favorable conditions for its growth and slow, late ripening: good exposure, well-drained soils, and plenty of sunshine. This wine has a pale red appearance, with – after a number of years’ aging – a few orange tints, notes of earth and leather, red and black berries, and flowers.
1982 Brunello di Montalcino “La Poderina”: Ruby red color with garnet notes. Intense, concentrated nose of black cherries, wild berries, and vanilla. On the palate, it is rich, full-bodied, quite tannic in youth, soft, and persistent. Best served with red and white roast meats, poultry, game, and aged cheese.
1985 Clos-Vougeot “Robert Arnoux”: Clos de Vougeot, located in Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits, is a prestigious and historically significant vineyard in the commune of Vougeot. Covering around 50 hectares, it is among Burgundy’s largest Grand Cru vineyards, with diverse soils and topography contributing to the complexity of its wines. Ownership is divided among various domaines and négociants, leading to variations in wine styles and quality. While Pinot Noir is the primary grape, small plantings of Chardonnay also contribute to Clos de Vougeot Blanc. As a Grand Cru vineyard, it holds the highest designation in Burgundy, reflecting its superior quality and status. Established by Cistercian monks in the Middle Ages, Clos de Vougeot has a storied past, passing through different religious orders and noble families over the centuries. Today, it is revered for producing some of Burgundy’s finest and most age-worthy red wines, celebrated for their depth, complexity, and ability to express the unique terroir of the vineyard.
1988 Cordier Chateau Gruaud Larose: A classic, old-school Saint-Julien, this Château Gruaud Larose offers a smorgasbord-like array of red and black fruits, saddle leather, cigar box, and smoke tobacco. Medium-bodied and nicely concentrated, with good mid-palate density, present tannins, and it sure brings plenty of character. It opens up nicely with time in the glass as well.
2006 Leonetti Cellar Cabernet Sauvignon, Walla Walla Valley: This full-throttle Bordeaux blend is big, tight, and a bit hard but dense and concentrated. Here are blue and black fruits, layers of smoke, and bitter chocolate, yet a lifted floral scent is also there. In the finish, it feels chewy and substantial, with threads of cedar, cinnamon, and caramel woven among the darker, smoky notes. Robert Parker rates it a 95.
2000 Chateau Fombrauge Saint-Emilion Grand Cru (2 bottles): A revelation, this stunning wine is opaque purple-colored, with gorgeous ripeness and richness, a big, sweet mid-palate, and a seamless finish revealing loads of fruit, chocolate, glycerin, and ripe tannin. Robert Parker rates it a 91.
